Abstract

The aim of this study is to establish whether the shape and surface features of experimental microdebitage are distinctive and different from those of materials in various environmental settings. Characteristics of experimental microdebitage are compared with coastal dune sands, weathered building stone in Sydney, and soil material from an arid region, Broken Hill area, where numerous rock engravings are found. In all cases, comparisons are made between quartz grains : roundness of quartz grains from scanning electron micrpgraphs
