This paper presents a statistical approach to study the spatial relationship between landslides and their causative factors at the regional level. The approach is based on digital databases, and incorporates such methods as statistics, spatial pattern analysis, and interactive mapping. First, the environmental settings and landslides in the study area are described. Finally, the results from a Lantau Island case study (1993) are presented and analysed. The advantages and disadvantages of the approach are discussed, along with the need for further research
