Abstract

Cluster analysis was carried out on grain size data (mean, median, sorting, kurtosis and skewness) from the dune covered areas in the Thar desert and from the coastal tract of arid Gujarat. Dendrograms prepared based on hierarchical grouping of the objects and their similarities almost replicated the type of genetic linkages that one expected between the units and helped in a better assessment of the process - form relationships. Another exercise on canonical discriminant function analysis on coastal sediments yielded widely separable units, but with a notion of spatial continuity of the sediments, especially through the aeolian processes
