Abstract

Brief overview of the main stages in the history of the Baltic Sea and their influence on the pattern of shore displacement in Finland. The technique employed for constructing the palaeogeographical maps of Finland is based on a digital elevation model (DEM) for the entire country. The model can be intersected by different surfaces in accordance with the water level that prevailed in the Baltic at each stage. The contour-based DEM was constructed by the National Land Survey, and it has horizontal resolution of 200 metres
