Abstract

Study is an examination of the role of tree planting in urban development on the Great Plains and in the making of place in the grassland biome. A. uses Norman, Oklahoma as a case study of a treeless frontier outpost in 1889 that was transformed into an attractive college town known for shaded streets and a wooded campus (the University of Oklahoma). - (SLD)
