Abstract

Ten Historic landscape photopoints taken between 1936 and 1939 by the German/Austrian climbing and cartographic expeditions to the Cordiller Blanca (Huscarán National Park) were replicated in 1997 and 1998. Comparisons revealed a number of changes, including stability in the native Polyepsis forest cover, increases in nonnative Eucalyptus and Pinus forest cover, widespread glacial recession, improved pasturage in some places, and increases in regional urbanization. A. identifies important Management concerns for further study. - (SLD)
