Abstract

Paper examines the problem of changing human activities in the fragile environment of old agricultural terraces in the Central Andes of Peru. Eight experimental plots were established in the Santa Eulalia basin at elevations of 2800 m up to 3650 m. Annual run-off coefficient values (< 5%) and sediment yield values (<1g/m2) were computed. Sprinklers simulated rainfall. A morphometric analysis of about 300 terraces revealed noticeable terrace degradation associated with physical, economic, and social processes. - (SLD)
