Abstract

The United Nations University, with its HQ building in Tokyo, is an international community of scholars engaged in research, postgraduate teaching, and knowledge dissemination. Author reviews the role of UNU in mountain-related issues since 1978 and also discusses the importance of mountains, which account for 24% of the earth's land surface and provide the life-support base for about 10% of the world's population. Latest UNU mountain-related activities are covered. - (SLD)
