The Alpine Convention : a model for other mountain regions ?

Authors(s) and Affiliation(s)

Transfrontier cooperation across mountain regions is best developed in the Alps, where there are three working communities of regional governments in the western, central, and eastern Alps and the Alpine Convention. Author discusses whether the Alpine Convention can be followed in other mountain regions. The Convention on the protection of the Alps dates to 1991, although its roots can be traced back to the 1950s. The preamble and articles of the convention are reviewed. Protocols of the various member nations, which define how the articles are implemented, are discussed. - (SLD)
