Abstract

The AA. present the results of their study of the shallow deformation of the Bielsa basement unit, in the Axial zone of the central Pyrenees (Spain), during the Pyrenean compressional stage. This basement unit, observable from elevations of 1000 to 2700 m, consists of well-exposed granitic and metasedimentary palaeozoic rocks. To determine the behaviour of these basement rocks, detailed geological mapping, aerial photographs, construction of detailed cross-sections, fracture analysis and paleomagnetic data were used to define relative, horizontal axis rotations between basement blocks
