Abstract

The AA. outline a method to identify and describe likely geomorphic controls on vertical and lateral hydrologic connectivity. They examine elevation differences among surveyed flood-plain elements (i.e., vegetation patches and channel reaches) delineated from aerial photographs of the Nyack flood-plain, Middle Fork Flathead River, Montana, USA, and describe spatial associations between flood-plain elements and subsurface preferential ground-water flow paths. The results explain differences in the scour frequency of flood-plain elements and are useful for developing a quantitative description of surface and subsurface geomorphic features
