Abstract

The AA. draw attention to wedge-like sedimentary structures discovered recently in northern Delaware. Possible origins include both periglacial and non-periglacial. The AA. indicate the need for a general term, without genetic inference, to describe wedge structures until an origin can be determined. Several hypotheses for the formation an infill of the wedges were evaluated using detailed physical, stratigraphic, and sedimentological information. They use a multiple working hypothesis approach (Chamberlain, 1897) to determine the mechanism responsible for the initial cracks and the origin and mode of transport of sediment in the wedges
