Abstract

This paper briefly presents the physically based interpolator of Niemann et al. (2003). Then it investigates the effects of using various initial surfaces in the procedure. Sometimes the information available in the initial surface grid is not sufficient to identify the actual drainage network, compromising the performance of this procedure. This work suggests that using the commonly available horizontal location of main channels (blue lines) improves the physical interpolation significantly. The results are illustrated on 2 river basins : Brushy Creek basin (Alabama) and Moshannon Creek River basin (Pennsylvania)
