Abstract

This paper presents and discusses the results of one-year data of sediment yield on the flanks of 2 Indonesian stratovolcanoes in almost permanent activity : Mt Semeru and Mt Merapi in Java. On both volcanoes, large sediment yields are a consequence of the almost monthly return period of lahars (volcanic debris flows and hyperconcentrated flows). The aim of this study is threefold : to calculate the sediment yield in 2 drainage basins; to assess the origin of the scoured material; and to compare the results with data from other volcanoes
