Abstract

The AA. present measurements of variations in the carbon and oxygen isotope compositions of shells of modern land snails from the southern Great Plains of North America : 12 localities in a narrow east-west corridor that extend from the Flint Hills in North Central Oklahoma to the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in Northern New Mexico, USA. The data are discussed in terms of their relationship to modern environmental variables to examine the likelihood that isotopic data from ancient land snails in the region might have paleoenvironmental significance
