Abstract

The aims of the paper are : to determine the volumes of erosion; to assess the potential annual longshore transport and its temporal variability. Volumetric losses on the barrier during the past 30 years have been computed and compare to theoretically estimated longshore sediment transport rates. It is shown that the net longshore sediment transport rates have probably increased significantly over the past century and that this increase to a large extent may have been caused by human intervention
