Le delta du Danube : géographie physique et problèmes d'environnement

Authors(s) and Affiliation(s)

In this paper the most important geographical aspects of the evolution and development of the Danube Delta (Romania) are discussed, along with its geology, geomorphology, hydrology and land use pattern. Special attention is paid to the environmental conflicts of the area, which arose after the political changes of 1989-90, when the delta became a nature conservation area, and thus subject of environmental protection. As a consequence a massive habitat reconstruction scheme of agricultural fields, forests and fish-ponds was launched. The effects and shortcomings of these measures are discussed. - (JS)
