Abstract

Linear erosion (LE), including rilling and gullying, has been identified as the major problem for sustainable agriculture in steepland areas. The aim of this study is to quantify the spatial and temporal variations of linear erosion at the catchment level, in a watershed in Laos. Spatial and temporal assessments of the formation and development of linear erosion features were carried out over a 3 year period from 2001 to 2003 within 9 sub-catchments with similar geology and climate conditions but with differing topographies and land use. Linear erosion was evaluated with reference to the environmental characteristics of the sub-catchments
