Abstract

The aim of this study is to quantify the change in fragmentation of a large floodplain river ecosystem that has been subject to water resource development. It considers both the spatial and the temporal effects of fragmentation on the potential exchange of dissolved organic carbon between a series of floodplain patches (anabranch channel) and the main river channel. The study has used a framework partly derived from landscape ecology, to advance the understanding of the structure and functioning of floodplain-river ecosystems
