Aoki and Matsukara (2004) have indicated that the Equotip Hardness Tester may be more suitable than the Schmidt hammer for finding the strength of a weathered layer. The AA. apply it to man-made caves known as Yagura which have been severely damaged by salt weathering. This paper reports preliminary results of the investigation
