Abstract

This paper presents an overview of permafrost investigations in Russia during the 19th and early 20th centuries. The A. emphasizes investigations focused on geothermal observations, permafrost modeling and mapping, ground ice, and the organization of observational networks, which have increased in detail as their relevance to problems involving climate change in the Arctic have become increasingly clear
