Abstract

The aim of this paper is to review and evaluate an acoustic Doppler current profiler (aDep) for measurements of flow velocity, bed load and suspended load in fluvial and lacustrine environments. Examples are provided from the Fraser Estuary and Lillooet Lake in western Canada. The paper will demonstrate that aDep offer many advantages over traditional measurements of velocity and sediment transport, but will highlight some serious limitations that require both consideration and development in future research
