Responses to climatic changes since the Little ice Age on Maladeta Glacier (Central Pyrenees)

Abstract

The AA. present a detailed reconstruction of the glacier retreat observed in the Maladeta Glacier and examine the relationship between that evolution and climatic fluctuations. Using different sources of data (morainic deposits, graphic documents), the extent of the glacier has been reconstructed and mapped into 10 stages. This information is compared with climatic data (temperature and precipitation), reconstructed for the same geographical area for that period by using dendroclimatic techniques and complemented by recent instrumental records of several South-Pyrenean weather stations
