Abstract

The goal of this study is to test whether rock type affects ecosystem functioning in a NE Spanish Mediterranean forest area with 3 silica-rich parent materials of contrasting texture and geochemistry. The AA. studied plots on the 3 parent materials in different landscape positions in order to separate the effect of rock type from those of aspect and slope position. Vegetation characteristics, humus forms and soil texture and depth were used as indicators of overall ecosystem functioning and drought stress. In addition, plant and soil N and P content and foliar N/P ratios were used to indicate the availability of the major nutrients
