Abstract

The aims are to assess runoff trends in the conterminous United States for the 60-year period 1940-1999, across the entire range of measured discharges (from minimum to maximum); to characterize the regional distribution of these trends by water-resources region; to identify seasonal shifts in the timing of minimum, median, and maximum flows within each water-resources region; and to explain the observed pattern of runoff trends in terms of previously reported trends in U.S. precipitation
