Abstract

Hungary's membership in the European Union has making it a strategically important eastern gate to the 25 member countries. The tourism in Hungary has two features : tourists from Germany tend to dominate while other tourists take a day trip from neighbouring countries. People from non-EU states are those who mainly utilize Hungary to protect their living standard, meaning that their activities in Hungary boost the informal economy and crime. This has a negative impact on tourism as a whole and Hungary's image suffers extensively from the crimes perpetrated against foreign tourists. The article describes some analyses as a contribution to a scientific explanation of the intricate interactions between tourism and crime. - (IFL)
