Abstract

Soil conditions and types of vegetation were analysed at altitudes between 1000 and 2400 m a.s.l. based on altitudinal transects in the Northern Pirin Mountains in Bulgaria. The research area is characterized by a high variability of the natural parameters of petrology, morphology and orographic climate gradient resulting in a soil mosaic of cambisols, rendzinas and pararendzinas up to 2000 m a.s.l. At higher levels alpine lithosols with occasionally thick humic layers are predominant. Furthermore, the article presents the different values of acidity, the typical figures for humus concentration and the medians of the C/N-ratio. - (IFL)
