Abstract

Previous studies have shown that attitudes towards entrepreneurship have an impact on the decision to start a new business. People with positive attitudes have a higher propensity to become entrepreneurs than people with negative attitudes. The article analyses the individual as well as regional determinants focusing on three attitude factors found to be significant drivers of entrepreneurship : the evaluation of the own ability to start a new business, the evaluation of start-up opportunities in the region, and the attitude towards risks. The analysis is based on the individual data of a representative telephone survey in ten German regions. - (IFL)
