Abstract

This study was designed to determine changes in wind speed and sediment transport on a low, narrow but complex protective foredune and identify the implications for geomorphic evolution of the dune. Field data were gathered from anemometers, sand traps and erosion pins deployed at Ocean City, New Jersey, in 2003. Temporal and spatial differences due to sand fences and wrack, changes in sediment availability due to time-dependent differences in surface moisture and frozen ground, combined with complex topography and patchy vegetation make it difficult to specify cause-effect relationships
