Abstract

South Africa has less than 7.5 percent of the population aged 60 and over, although 16 percent of whites but only 6.2 percent of blacks were aged over 60. Although in the 1980s housing the elderly was a joint pulic - private partnership, since 2000 state funded homes have been phased out. The paper examines housing and housing needs for the aged in the Free State, and the contribution of the non-state sector. - (AJC)531441
