Abstract

This paper presents an expert-driven semi-automated method to define geomorphological units in a partly forested alpine area in Austria, using detailed statistical information derived from a laser DTM and an object-oriented classification approach. The identified geomorphological units are directly linked to morphometric properties, material, surface processes and the genesis of landforms. Recognition of these units is not based on individual landforms (e.g. a drumlin, a landslide and a single gully) but on groups of individual landforms
