Abstract

The aims of this work were to reconstruct the sediment yield of Lake Takkobu during the previous 300 years and to clarify the influence of watershed development on the sediment yield using distinct depositional events or signals, Cs 137 and tephra as marker layers. Emphasis was placed on the inflow and flux of the fine-grained sediment, because most nutrients and contaminants are associated with the fine-grained sediment. Identification of the recent history of the sediment flux has implications for sediment management and well-ordered land-use development
