Abstract

Proceedings of the Symposium organized on may 2007 in Bangkok. Media developed in Thailand tends to spread western concepts such as democracy and freedom. However, authorities have regularly attempted to grip on independent media. Nowadays debates on press freedom in Thailand are a new development of this long lasting antogonism. The current situation in Thailand emphasizes concerns for press freedom, state censorship, self-censorship, media ownerships and ethics. Despites of high degree of freedom, a new situation enhancing the role of the army could damage the reliability of Thai media. Among the authors are Kavi Chongkittavorn, Weera Prateepchaikul, Thongbai Thongpao, Arjarn Phansasiri Kularb. - (GL)
