Abstract

In this volume, there is a trend in the research topics and techniques remote sensing (Digital Elevation Modeling, Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler) but at the same time the classic Yangtze case studies (the gorges, the delta, the attenuation of floods by large lakes in the middle valley, and the passage of large floods) still continue to have research interest for fluvial geomorphologists. Lastly, there are studies on very large river basins covering extensive parts of the Asian continent, with an extreme high range of elevation. Finally, it is necessary to adjust ones perception of scale to that of very large rivers, in the contexts of river discharge, sediment flux, and channel size. This volume raises also the question of flood hazard mitigation, basin conservation, and climate change
