Abstract

The British geographer William Mead made his first trip to Finland in 1938 ; since then he has returned almost every year and has produced an enormous sholarly output of books and articles during a career that extends over 70 years. This autobiographic work traces the phases of his work, including a major research project on the resettlement of refugees from eastern Karelia, and explores his sustained fascination with Finland and the other states of Northern Europe. A complete bibliography of his publications is included. - (HC)
