Abstract

The Alps encompass an area about 1200 km by 300 km. At no point-in-time lived as many people in this mountainous area today. Never before have the Alps been such an attractive place for economic, leisure and recreational activities. However, not all Alpine Regions benefit from this dynamic process in the same way. Large differences exist between the easily accessible dynamic regions and the peripheral regions. The development in the Alps shows many parallels to non-alpine areas. - (IfL)
