Abstract

The study lies within a Mediterranean hot summer climatic zone. The AA. completed a detailed petrographical, clay mineral, and chemical study of the corestone and surrounding saprolitic enclave preserved at Santa Margarita Ecological Reserve (SMER), Temecula, SW California. The AA. conclude that saprolite within this enclave is the result of the weakening and loss of intercrystalline cohesion brought on by the dynamic interplay between the formation of expandable mixed-layered clay minerals, amplification of ground shaking during earthquakes, dissolution, and gravity-driven fluid migration
