Abstract

Leipzig is one of the aspiring cities in the eastern part of Germany that is today, after heavy losses of jobs and population in the 1990´s, characterized by a positive dynamics in economic and demographic change. By means of an innovative and strategic approach in its city development planning, Leipzig concentrates on stabilizing the positive tendencies deliberately and thereby steer and shape demographic change. Therefore the strategy for the promotion of the city´s economy is characterized by focusing on fostering the development of the most promising economic clusters in the city. Evaluation of sites from the perpective of different branches and the development of specific offers for the demand identified is a second step in this context. - (IfL)
