Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the spatial distribution patterns of some selected elements and micro pollutants in surface sediments in order to reveal their source and transport pathways in the transition area between the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. The spatial distributions of Zn and Pb with highest concentrations in the southern part of the study area imply local terrestrial supply and transport. In general, the PCB and PAH concentrations were high both in the northern and the southern parts of the area and low in-between. The relative constant ratio between the analyzed PCBs on all the stations suggests atmospheric deposition as the main source of PCB
