Abstract

The measurements of stem and root properties of 25 Mediterreanean plant species were conducted in the Cárcavo catchment in southeast Spain, in order to make a selection and to compare the effectiveness of species growing in different habitats for rill and gully erosion control. In this analysis determination of suitable plants for controlling concentrated flow erosion is based on a multi-criteria analysis. Five indicators were selected : additional root cohesion, plant stiffness, stem density, the erosion-reducing potential during concentrated flow and the sediment and organic debris obstruction potential.
