Abstract

In this study, the AA. investigated the influence of surface moisture contents (at 1mm depth) on sand entraiment and erosion using tropical humid coastal sands from southern China. Shear velocities were deduced from velocity profiles above the sand. The threshold shear velocity increased linearly with increasing gravimetric moisture content. With these results of wind tunnel measurements, this study provided a preliminary contribution to clarifying the effect of surface moisture on the deflation and erosion process above wet surfaces such as those that are found on tropical humid beaches in southern China
