Abstract

Lichenometry was used to study fluctuations of 6 glaciers in the Polar Urals over the last millennium. In order to estimate the growth rate of Rhizocarpon lichens, the AA. used recently deglaciated surfaces as calibration sites. These sites, on glacier forelands, were dated using topographic maps, aerial photographs (from 1953 to 1989), terrestrial photogrammetry, field photographs (from the 1960s to 2005), and satellite images (from 2000 and 2008). Results and discussion about the lichenometric-age estimates of these moraines in the context of other climatic proxies in the region
