The aims of this research are to document the age and extent of lacustrine deposition in the Elmali basin throughout the Holocene and to determine if the 2 lakes, Avlan Gölü and Kara Göl, were once contiguous. Results of this investigation will be integrated into research at Hacimusalar to possibly explain gaps in the record of human occupation there. The age determination is based on C 14 dating of core sediment samples. The paleoenvironmental reconstruction is based on the litho-stratigraphic analysis of a lake bed core and the texture, mineraloy, and faunal content of all subsurface sediment samples and outcrops basin wide
