This research aims at assessing the contribution of sediment produced by water erosion in compounds, on footpaths and on unpaved roads in representative rural areas of the riparian zone of the Lake Victoria basin within Mayuge district. Furthermore, the relationship between soil loss rates in these zones and the slope steepness is investigated as well as the evolution of soil loss rates over medium term (i.e. 5–50 years). Finally, the soil loss rates obtained in this study are compared with those from similar environments reported in other studies
