Abstract

The Union of South Africa was established in May 1910. It undertook a census the following year, which may be regarded as a foundational, Domesday, survey of the country, on a uniform basis, covering its population, housing, livestock, agriculture and industries. In scope and inclusiveness it was never repeated. - (AJC)
