Abstract

Coastal erosion of Quaternary calcareous arenites has exposed peculiar karst landforms at Punta Funtanas (Arbus, centralwest Sardinia, Italy), Roca Vecchia, Torre Specchiolla and Torre Santa Sabina (Apulia, Italy) and at Tabarka (northern Tunisia). The wide set of vertical cone-shaped pipes found in these coastal areas can be defined as dissolution pipes. This paper deals with their morphological description. A large set of pipes has been measured (depth, top diameter) allowing to make some statistical analysis. Through this modelling, coupled with a detailed morphological analysis, the aim of this paper is to determine how these curious landforms have developed
