Abstract

In the present review a general analysis of the basic map reading concepts learned by Hungarian pupils in elementary schools can be found, including the use of school atlases and other maps in the teaching of themes related to geography and other subjects. The results obtained within an international project about the reading of thematic maps by pupils are also presented shortly, being followed by a brief description of actual developments in cartography (geoinformatics, webcartography, GPS) and re-affirmation the necessity of reflecting these changes in Hungarian elementary and secondary schools. - (AM)
