Abstract

This study was conducted in a Liudaogou catchment on the northern Loess Plateau at the Shenmu Erosion and Environmental Research Station, characterised by a semiarid climate. The AA. investigated the natural abundances of 13C, 15N, OC, and total nitrogen (TN) in soils at depths of 0-10, 10-20, and 20-40 cm from restored grasslands of different ages. The results highlight the utility of stable isotopes in studying C and N dynamics along revegetational succession on degraded land and emphasise the improvement in soil OC and N by well-managed strategies of vegetational restoration in the northern Loess Plateau
