Abstract

In this pilot study, the AA. present growth (1963-2004), reproduction (1963-2004), and stable carbon isotope ratio (1975-2004) chronologies for Cassiope mertensiana from a subalpine site in Mount Rainier National Park, Washington. The AA. examine the statistical relationships between these chronologies and the climate record, and investigate the future potential of developing a climate reconstruction model when longer C. mertensiana chronologies are developed from other subalpine and alpine sites in western North America
