Abstract

De Cappelle Brooke was a well-known British traveller and scientist who was a founder member of the Travellers’ Club, a fellow of the Royal and Linnean societies, a founder of the Raleigh Club, and one of the founders and first council members of the Royal Geographical Society (established in London in 1830). He was also a member of the Societe de Geographie in Paris, and was widely regarded as an authority on Scandinavia, especially its northern parts. - (HC)
